SUNY Polytechnic Instituteโ€™s (SUNY Polyโ€™s) yearly rankings byย U.S. News & World Reportย continue to emphasize the institutionโ€™s academic strength, along with its ability to support veterans and social mobility, while providing excellent value to students.

U.S. Newsย named SUNY Poly 12thย in its โ€œBest Regional Universities-Northโ€ ranking and 2ndย for the โ€œTop Public Schoolsโ€ Regional Universities-North ranking in 2022. In the same regional category, SUNY Poly remained in the top 20 for โ€œSocial Mobility,โ€ which recognizes colleges that advance this critical effort by successfully enrolling and graduating economically disadvantaged students. SUNY Poly was once again ranked in the top fifty for โ€œBest Value Collegesโ€ for Regional Universities-North.

SUNY Poly also ranked 4thย in โ€œBest Colleges for Veterans,โ€ up one position from the institutionโ€™s 2021 rankings in the Regional Universities-North category. This honor is especially meaningful because SUNY Polyโ€™s Utica campus is in close proximity to both the Air Force Research Laboratoryโ€”Information Directorate in Rome, New York, and the U.S. Armyโ€™s Fort Drum military reservation.

“These 2022 rankings are an excellent indication of the top-tier academic experience SUNY Poly students receive, and we are honored the efforts of our faculty, staff, and students continue to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report,โ€ย said Dr. Tod A. Laursen, SUNY Polytechnic Institute Acting President. โ€œThese rankings reflect how SUNY Poly provides a world-class education at an incredible value, with critical opportunities for our veterans and a powerful platform for each of our students to achieve upward social mobility.โ€

SUNY Polyโ€™s top 20 ranking for โ€œSocial Mobilityโ€ further shines a light on the institutionโ€™s high emphasis on providing educational opportunities for students of all backgrounds, especially through its Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). The EOP at SUNY Poly facilitates access, academic support, and financial assistance to first-time, full-time students who show promise for succeeding in college but may need additional support.

SUNY Poly is included in the Regional Universities-North category and placed 12thย overall out of 175 ranked universities. The annual rankings byย U.S. News and World Reportย categorize colleges and universities based upon their Carnegie Classification, created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.ย U.S. News & World Reportย maintains nine different ranking categories, each with different weights assigned to them to determine the final institution positions. These categories include graduation and retention rates, social mobility, undergraduate academic reputation, average alumni giving rate, and faculty and financial resources, among others.

โ€œThe 2022ย U.S. News and World Reportย rankings testify to SUNY Polyโ€™s academic quality and its value proposition to students,โ€ said SUNY Polyโ€™s Interim Provost Dr. Steven Schneider. โ€œSUNY Poly is thrilled to offer a wide range of educational programs in relevant subjects via our partnerships and flexible online degree programs.โ€

Over the past year, SUNY Poly has continued to progress, maintaining steady enrollment of nearly 3,000 students while working to make obtaining both baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate degrees easier through increased online distance learning opportunities and via partnerships with a number of institutions, includingย Onondaga Community Collegeย andย the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH), among others.

In addition,ย Stackerย recentlyย ranked SUNY Poly in the top 100 โ€œPublic colleges with the best return on investment,โ€ย indicating, โ€œThese numbers all but guarantee that SUNY Poly Tech students will be able to secure stable, high-paying jobs after graduation.โ€

The Association of Public & Land-Grant Universities (APLU) alsoย featured SUNY Poly in its selection of “Transfer Student Success Programs,” noting that, “In addition to unique agreements with two-year schools, SUNY Poly also offers a Path to Polyย program to first-year studentsโ€ฆallowing transfer counselors the opportunity to provide guidance and resources to the program participants that will prepare them for a smooth transition to SUNY Poly upon admission.โ€
