Register Today! Seminar: Stroke, Dementia, and Brain Injury: Understanding Causes, Care, and Recovery

This seminar in MMRI’s series focuses on understanding stroke, dementia, and brain injuries. Learn how to recognize early symptoms, reduce risk factors, and support recovery.

Masonic Medical Research Institute (MMRI), in partnership with Mohawk Valley Living, will host the second installment of its Health and Science Made Simple seminar series on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 6 p.m. in MMRI’s auditorium at 2150 Bleecker St., Utica. The community program brings together MMRI scientists and regional medical experts to discuss trending health topics, aiming to spark curiosity, educate, and build a more informed and connected community.

This seminar, Stroke, Dementia, and Brain Injury: Understanding Causes, Care, and Recovery, will explore how to recognize early warning signs, understand risk factors, and explore strategies that may help reduce risk and support recovery. The discussion will also examine diagnosis, treatment options, and long-term management approaches to help protect brain health.

The panel will feature Dr. Nicholas Qandah, a board-certified neurosurgeon specializing in complex brain and spine conditions; Dr. Juleen Qandah, a board-certified emergency medicine physician and stroke director at Rome Health; and Dr. Satish Krishnamurthy, a board-certified neurosurgeon and professor at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. The conversation will be moderated by Dr. Maria Kontaridis, executive director of MMRI.

Health and Science Made Simple is designed to connect the community with scientists and physicians through open discussion and audience questions. Attendees will also have the opportunity to network and participate in a guided tour of MMRI’s state-of-the-art research facility. The event is free and open to the public thanks to the support of Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and Central New York Brain and Spine. Guests are encouraged to RSVP in advance, though in-person registration will be available if space allows, and a Zoom option will be provided.
