PrattΒ MunsonΒ students show off work in mixed media exhibitions atΒ Munson

 

JoinΒ MunsonΒ in celebrating the artistic accomplishments of our students at PrattΒ MunsonΒ College of Art and Design, who will have their work featured in two juried, mixed media exhibitions in the Museum of Art this monthβ€”a First-Year Exhibition and a Sophomore Exhibition. A reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25, in the Museum’s Root Court. Both exhibitions and the reception are free and open to the public.

β€œThese exhibitions highlight the creativity, rigor, and growth that define the PrattΒ MunsonΒ experience, and mark an important milestone as students prepare for the next stage of their artistic journey,” said Suzanne Snyder, dean of PrattΒ Munson.

The First-Year Exhibition, on view April 10 through May 6 in the PrattΒ MunsonΒ Gallery, represents the culmination of a rigorous and immersive yearlong foundation program that prepares students with the essential skills to enter their specialized majors. The work selected displays the important practice of seeing, interdisciplinary research, experimentation, and a high level of critical inquiry. The Foundation program is rooted in individual and collaborative studio-based investigations that foster an inclusive and tight-knit community atΒ Munson.

The Sophomore Exhibition, on view April 17 through May 16 in the Museum’s Balcony Galleries, celebrates the achievement of our students who have completed the first two years of Pratt Institute’s rigorous Bachelor of Fine Arts curriculum.Β This art is indicative of the intense efforts and creative fortitude put forth by the students in their respective areas of focus as well as the exploration of a wide range of diverse mediums. Under the guidance of PrattΒ Munson’s accomplished faculty, these students are challenged to expand their aesthetic, visual, and conceptual capabilities and have met the challenge with impressive ingenuity. This exhibition also marks the completion of their time on the Utica campus and advances them to continue their path to successful art careers in Brooklyn, N.Y., at Pratt Institute’s main campus.

The PrattΒ MunsonΒ Gallery is located on the second floor of Fountain Elms.
