Oneida County Tourism (OCT) is inviting local residents to take part in a countywide Tourism Resident Sentiment Survey, aimed at gathering community feedback that will help shape the organization’s upcoming rebranding effort and future tourism strategies that reflect local values and priorities.
As OCT prepares to refresh its brand identity, the organization is seeking input directly from the people who know the county best — its residents. The survey will provide a clearer understanding of how Oneida County residents view tourism’s role in the community, its impact on quality of life, and its contribution to the local economy.
“Tourism touches nearly every corner of Oneida County — from the jobs it supports to the pride we feel when visitors experience what makes our area special,” said Sarah Foster Calero, President, Oneida County Tourism. “Bringing visitors into Oneida County is an essential part of tourism, but understanding how our residents feel is also important. Their perspectives will help guide how we represent Oneida County to the rest of the world and how we continue strengthening our relationship with the region we serve.”
“Oneida County’s story is best told by the people who live here,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “Our residents are the heart of what makes this region special. Their pride, creativity and sense of community shape how visitors experience it. This survey is an opportunity for every resident to have a voice in how we share Oneida County with the world and ensure that tourism continues to benefit our communities for years to come.”
The short, anonymous survey asks participants to share their opinions on topics such as the influence of tourism on the local economy, area development, and quality of life. Residents are also asked about their perceptions of Oneida County as a destination, as well as what types of visitors they believe the region should attract in the future.
These findings will play a role in OCT’s rebrand and long-term initiatives, ensuring they reflect local values and showcase Oneida County’s diverse experiences — from outdoor recreation at Pixley Falls State Park to cultural attractions, a growing food and beverage scene, major sporting events at the Nexus Center, and new developments like The Evolution at Turning Stone Resort Casino.
Beyond shaping the new brand, the results will guide resident engagement efforts. Insights will be used for improving communication with residents and local leaders, identifying priorities for enhancing resident livability, and ensuring that the benefits of tourism are felt throughout the county. They may also inspire local marketing and “pride of place” campaigns that celebrate the people and places that make Oneida County unique, strengthening community pride while promoting the region to visitors.
The survey is open to all Oneida County residents and takes approximately 5-7 minutes to complete. Responses are confidential and will be analyzed to identify trends in local sentiment toward tourism and its future growth.
Residents can access the survey at https://qrco.de/octsurvey or by visiting Oneida County Tourism (@visitoneidacounty) on social media. The survey will remain open through December 31, 2025.
