The Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS), in collaboration with Upstate Urology, is hosting a free prostate cancer screening event throughout the month of September to recognize Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and encourage men to get screened.

Who: Men ages 45 to 75

What: Free prostate exam with a prostate-specific blood test

Where: Upstate Urology at MVHS, 1676 Sunset Avenue, Utica. Use the Bennett Street entrance and take the Green Elevators to the second floor.

When: Friday, September 17, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesday, September 21 and 28 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m

Why: Prostate cancer is the most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in American men. Approximately one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Early diagnosis of prostate cancer significantly increases the likelihood of survival.
