Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency (MVCAA) is proud to announce its upcoming Poverty Symposium. This thought-provoking event is aimed at addressing the challenges of poverty and fostering meaningful dialogue for change. The symposium will take place on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 11:30 AM at Hartโ€™s Hill Inn, located in Whitesboro, NY.

The event will feature Joe Roberts, internationally renowned keynote speaker and advocate for youth homelessness prevention. Known as “The Skidrow CEO,” Roberts brings a compelling personal story of transformationโ€”from living on the streets of Vancouver as a homeless addict to becoming the CEO of a leading multimedia company. His inspiring journey and his mission to create ripple effects of positive change have made him a sought-after speaker for Fortune 500 companies, professional associations, and organizations worldwide.

 

Robertsโ€™ keynote address will highlight his remarkable life story, the importance of perseverance, and the need for communities to come together to tackle systemic issues such as poverty and homelessness. He will also share insights from his national campaign, The Push for Change, during which he walked 9,064 kilometers across Canada to raise awareness and inspire action against youth homelessness.

 

Following the keynote address, the symposium will feature a panel discussionย between Joe Roberts and local politicians. This panel will delve into actionable strategies to improve how communities assist individuals and families facing poverty, with a focus on collaboration and innovation.
