During this year’s spring break, Munson is offering its final free Art Alive! Family Day for the season featuring art-making activities for families in the Museum’s Root Court from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a performance at 11 a.m. by Captain Nemo’s Adventure Academy on Thursday, April 24, in the Sinnott Family – Bank of Utica Auditorium followed by a clowning workshop at 1 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
Take a deep dive into environmental stewardship and earth science with Captain Nemo himself. The cantankerous and ever-curious Captain Nemo lives to excite kids about our watery-blue planet and highlight for us landlubbers the vital inter-dependence of all living things. This reclusive maritime hero entertains, inspires, and challenges children 4 to 11, while quenching their thirst for knowledge of the Wonders of the Deep. During this laugh-riot program, the Cycle of Life above and below the waves is showcased via encounters with the elusive Angler Fish, a giant squid, a jar of bioluminescent plankton, and even whale poop!
Art Alive! Family Days at Munson are held during school breaks as a way of getting kids and their families connected and familiar with the Museum.
Funding for Art Alive! is provided by the MetLife Foundation, Sheila and Ron Cuccaro, and by Rona Lucas, in memory of Roslyn and Irving Levine.
An American Sign Language interpreter will be on stage at the 11 a.m. performance.
