MMRI Celebrated National Chemistry Week!
MMRI celebrated National Chemistry Week from Sunday, October 18, 2026, to Saturday, October 24, 2026, by visiting local schools to inspire the next generation of scientists. From atoms to complex biological systems, chemistry drives discoveries that advance human health.
To spark curiosity and a love for science, MMRI researchers visited Jones Elementary and Watson Williams Elementary School in Utica, New York. Chemists from the McCarthy Lab at MMRI performed various hands-on experiments, including a live chemistry demonstration in which carbon dioxide was created using dry ice and common household ingredients. The
students also created βelephant toothpasteβ with help from the scientists.
MMRI is committed to educating and training basic scientists, clinical researchers, and students who will carry on and expand the fight against disease worldwide β and that starts in the
classroom! Each experiment was designed to make science accessible, engaging, and impactful for students of all ages.
