Lupus Awareness Month at MMRI
May is Lupus Awareness Month! Lupus, or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), is a complex autoimmune disease in which the immune system mistakenly targets healthy tissues, causing widespread inflammation and damage to organ systems throughout the body. Though the exact cause of lupus is unclear, it is believed to result from genetic, environmental, and hormonal factors. At MMRI, our research focuses on unraveling the causes of lupus to develop more effective treatment options and potentially cures for this debilitating condition.
To help raise awareness and support for the MMRI lupus research program, we invite you to join us for our 3rd annual Lupus Walk, to be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Masonic Care Community campus in Utica, New York. Your support is more important now than ever. Whether you walk, sponsor, or donate, you will help advance vital research and stand with those impacted by lupus. MMRI is also hosting a special Health & Science Made Simple seminar this month. Join us for โLupus Insights and Approaches: Are We Closer to a Cure?โ on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at MMRI to explore the latest advances in lupus research, hear from experts, and learn how science is moving us closer to improved treatments.
