Universal Bookkeeper (UB) is proud to announce the hiring of Thomas G. Squires, CPA, MA PA, as the firm’s new Controller, effective October 20, 2025. Squires joins Shannon Riley, CPA as the second Controller on the UB team.
In his role, Squires will oversee financial report reviews, tax return preparation, client audit coordination, and financial presentations for management and boards. He brings with him more than three decades of experience in accounting, administration, and public finance — most recently serving as Vice President for Administrative Services and Chief Financial Officer at Mohawk Valley Community College.

A resident of Clinton, NY, Squires has spent much of his career in Central New York, serving in leadership roles with Mohawk Valley Community College, Cayuga County, and Onondaga County. In addition to this CPA designation, he holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Public Administration from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School and a Bachelor of Science (B.S) in Accounting from SUNY Oswego. He and his wife, Anne, have lived in Clinton for nearly 13 years, where they’re raising their two sons. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Squires serves as Treasurer for the Clinton Sports Boosters Inc., supporting youth athletics and community engagement.
