The F.X. Matt Brewing Co., brewer of Saranac craft beers and soft drinks, won two prestigious gold medals at one of the world’s leading beer competitions. Saranac Pale Ale and Saranac Legacy IPA 2.0 were both awarded gold medals at the European Beer Star 2020 competition at the BrauBeviale trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany.

Fred Matt, F.X. Matt Brewing Co. President, proudly announced, “Two of our beers, Saranac Pale Ale and Saranac Legacy IPA 2.0, have been recognized as two of the best beers in the world, reflecting the world-class beers we are brewing right here in Utica, NY. It is an honor to win and to receive this much-deserved recognition.”

“Building upon my Great Grandfather’s recipe from 1914, Legacy IPA 2.0 gives a nod to the original recipe yet modernizes it to make use of new more flavorful hop varieties with tropical notes. Having made Pale Ale since 1994, this award highlights the ongoing quality of our beers”, said Fred.

This year, 2,036 beers from 42 countries across all continents competed at the European Beer Star 2020, which was held for the 16th year in a row. A 72-member judges panel, comprising of master brewers, beer sommeliers, and established beer connoisseurs from Europe, took part in a two-and-a-half-day blind tasting in early October to determine the winners of the gold, silver and bronze medals for 70 different beer styles.
