April is Credit Union Youth Month and First Source Federal Credit Union is celebrating by hosting a “Penny the Pup” coloring contest. Youth Members can color a page and turn it to be entered into a raffle to win fun prizes! Full details are available at fsource.org.

In addition, as part of their youth programs, First Source offers a range of educational resources designed to promote financial literacy and smart savings habits. Their Penny Passport Program is designed for ages 0-12. As your child grows, this program encourages them to get involved and be eager to save as they get rewarded along the way. Kids are given a Penny Passport card and earn stamps as they make deposits into their account. Stamped cards can be turned in for prizes.

School-aged kids beginning with 8 years old can play interactive Banzai games. These are fun, age-appropriate, educational savings goal games, calculators and more.

As part of The Penny University Program, Teen Members (13-17) have access to educational modules to learn smart ways to manage their money, cyber security best practices, and more! Each quarter a new set of modules is available along with a new prize as a reward for finishing the modules.

“As we continue to plant seeds of knowledge, we are making learning money management skills fun,” said Debbie Grogan, First Source Community Development Specialist.

You can check out all the offerings on their website under Youth Accounts, as well as under Resources, Financial Education and Tools tabs. In the spirit of Youth Month, it’s never too early to plan for our kids’ future, and to teach them how to save and spend smarter.
