On Thursday, October 23, 2025, CFLR brings back “Hope in a Bowl of Soup” at its Rome office, located at 201 West Dominick Street. This warm and welcoming, annual event invites community members to enjoy assorted soups and baked goods while learning about local recovery efforts and services. More than just a meal, the event serves as a space for hope and healing, where individuals in recovery — or still facing challenges — can feel supported and understood.

CFLR’s Co-Director of Recovery and Community Service, Katie Rodriguez, shared, “Everyone in our community needs to know they are not alone on their journey. This event reflects our commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment.” “Hope in a Bowl of Soup” is funded by Erin’s Light, a recovery support initiative established in memory of Erin, who lost her battle with addiction in 2019. Erin’s Light continues to share love, inspiration, grace, and hope with individuals working toward recovery. Hosting this event in October holds special meaning for this initiative, not only as a time of remembrance but also as the month we celebrate Erin’s birthday. CFLR honors Erin’s legacy by continuing the work she inspired: lifting others up with compassion, connection, and hope.

As a special addition to this event, guests can learn more about “Red Ribbon Week,” the nation’s largest drug prevention awareness campaign. This year’stheme, “Life is a Puzzle, Solve it Drug-Free,” encourages individuals and communities to work together in building substance-free lives. CFLR continues to bring this message to life through connection and action. Guests will also have the opportunity to decorate puzzle pieces, which will be added to a collaborative mural symbolizing the community’s collective pledge with CFLR to live drug-free.

Just two days later, on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., CFLR will host its Fall Take Back Day at 321 Main Street in Utica. Held in collaboration with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Oneida County Opioid Task Force, Oneida County Health Department, and Utica Police Department, this initiative provides residents with a safe and convenient way to dispose of unused or expired medications, including sharps and pet medications.

Both events are free and open to the public. Whether through a shared meal, a creative pledge or responsible action, each person plays a vital role in building a healthier, drug-free community. Center for Family Life and Recovery, Inc. is proud to be the area’s leading expert in advocacy, prevention, counseling, and employee assistance programs. Along with supporting individuals and families struggling with addiction and recovery, mental health, and behavioral issues, CFLR’s goal is to inspire hope, provide help, promote wellness, and transform lives.
