Bassett Healthcare Network Welcomes New Medical Director of Interventional Cardiology

Bassett Healthcare Network is pleased to welcome Anthony Nappi, MD, as its new Medical Director of Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Nappi began this role on November 3, 2025.

In this leadership position, Dr. Nappi will oversee operations and fellow practitioners in the Interventional Cardiology subspecialty of Bassett’s Cardiology Department. Interventional Cardiology uses minimally invasive techniques to treat a variety of conditions impacting the heart and blood vessels.

“Interventional Cardiology can be both diagnostic and therapeutic. The majority of the procedures we perform are done through the use of a catheter, which is a thin, flexible tube that is inserted into the blood vessel,” Dr. Nappi explains. “We can look for blockages and use balloons and stents to repair them and even, in some cases, deliver heart valves through catheters. It’s rewarding to be able to deliver quality care to our patients without the burden of long recovery times.”

Dr. Nappi earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, which is an island in the Caribbean. His residency took place at SUNY Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY. He completed fellowships at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY and Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, MA. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease & Interventional Cardiology. After his education was complete, Dr. Nappi returned to Albany, where he held a faculty position at Albany Medical School for over 15 years, becoming the program director for the interventional cardiology fellowship training program before accepting his current position at Bassett.

“One of the reasons I chose to accept this position with Bassett Healthcare Network is the network has an excellent reputation. I’m amazed at the services, the equipment, the technology, and the level of expertise we offer – not just at the physician level, but at every level including the technologists and the nurses that we work with in Cardiology,” said Dr. Nappi. “I am looking forward to fully embracing this new opportunity.”

Dr. Nappi is accepting new, adult patients by referral. Call (607) 547-3180 for more information.
