Green Utica and AmeriCU Credit Union have joined forces to launch a community initiative to rebuild the Central New York War Monument, a three-sided monument honoring service members who fought in World War I, World War II, and the Korean War.
Last year, the fiberglass monument sustained significant damage, including cracks, large areas of detail having fallen right off, and overall wear. Repairs are estimated to cost approximately $15,000. AmeriCU Credit Union has stepped forward as the Presenting Sponsor, contributing $5,000 toward the effort.
“Revitalizing this monument is more than just maintenance,” said Ron Belle President and CEO of AmeriCU Credit Union. “As a credit union with roots in the military, it was important to us to see the monument stand in a respectful and dignified manner for many years to come.  This initiative is a meaningful way to honor our veterans and preserve a piece of our community history and pride.
The Central New York War Monument sits along Utica’s Memorial Parkway, a central location and one of the main thoroughfares of our city.
“This project represents the power of community collaboration – and together, we can ensure the legacy of the CNY War Monument continues to stand tall for generations to come,” Said Gina Pearce, GreenUtica’s Executive Director.
This initiative reflects AmeriCU’s longstanding commitment to supporting the military community. Founded 75 years ago in Griffiss Air Force Base, the credit union has proudly served service members and their families since the very beginning.
Community members are encouraged to contribute to the project by donating to GreenUtica. Donations of any size will help ensure the monument remains a place where families and visitors can gather to honor those who served.
