The Masonic Care Community is proud to announce a $9,837 Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Health and Wellness Award. The award will support MCC’s wound care program, an important service provided to the elderly residents they serve.



Wounds are a common medical issue that affects elderly individuals and can affect people’s health and the quality of their lives. This project is essential, as older individuals are especially vulnerable to the development of chronic wounds due to age-related changes.


“The company’s Health and Wellness Awards demonstrate a corporate commitment to support local organizations that share our mission as a nonprofit health plan,” said Eve Van de Wal, Utica regional president of Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. “We are proud to provide this support to our partners at MCC to improve the health and wellbeing of their residents.”


“This critical funding provided by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield will be used for additional wound care training certification for our Assistant Director of Nursing and wound care specialist,” shares Mara Mulligan, the Director of Strategic Marketing and Philanthropy at MCC. “We will also secure new shortwave diathermy equipment which uses safe, electromagnetic waves to create therapeutic effects and assists in the treatment of wounds to improve healthcare outcomes for our residents.
