First Source Federal Credit Union will be holding their second annual book drive to benefit students in the Utica City School District, through the Young Scholars Liberty Partnerships Program, Utica College. The book drive will take place Monday, February 10th – Saturday, February 22nd at all First Source branch locations. We are continuing to build a library for the Young Scholars with new, or gently used, age-appropriate books for boys and girls age 12-18. Some genres requested include Sports Biography, Adventure, Romantic Comedies, Fantasy, History and Percy Jackson Series.
Young Scholars LPP was established in 1993, as a multi-year collaborative project between Utica College and the Utica City School District (UCSD). This program is designed by education professionals to motivate diverse and talented students to stay in school, earn a New York State Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, and pursue post-secondary education.
Each year, Young Scholars serves 350 students from grades 7 through 12. UCSD teachers nominate students in sixth grade based on the student possessing the potential for success in secondary and post-secondary school, but who may not achieve their full potential due to social and economic barriers. The program encompasses academic support, counseling, summer program, community service, enrichment activities, college and career exploration, a mentor program, and parent education.
“We are grateful for First Source Federal Credit Union’s commitment to the Young Scholars Program, said Pamela Matt,” Executive Director of Young Scholars LPP. They support us through funding, marketing awareness, volunteerism, and serve as mentors for our students. They engage with us in innovative ways like hosting this book drive which our students are most appreciative of.”
We give back to our community through many different avenues,” said Pamela Way, Community Relations Specialist for First Source Federal Credit Union. “This particular program as well allows us to engage on many levels which our employees enjoy.”
To help out simply bring books to any First Source location during business hours from 2/10 – 2/22 and drop them off in their lobby. For more information, please contact Pamela Way, at pway@fsource.org or 315-735-8571.
