Gary D. Zimmer, MD, FACEP, has joined Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) as the chief medical officer (CMO).
Dr. Zimmer earned his Bachelor of Arts in molecular biology at Princeton University, his Doctor of Medicine from Cornell University and completed his residency with The Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency.
Dr. Zimmer began his career at Johns Hopkins University, where he served in a teaching role. He left Johns Hopkins to serve as the chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Harbor Hospital (part of MedStar Health), which began his nearly 20-year leadership path in emergency medicine and healthcare administration. Dr. Zimmer held leadership positions with TeamHealth, Mercy Health System and Crozer Health.
As a physician and healthcare leader, Dr. Zimmer brings more than 20 years of health system and clinical expertise to his role. Prior to joining MVHS, Dr. Zimmer served as chief medical officer for Emergency Medicine at Sound Physicians, where he led clinical operations for their emergency medicine specialty.
As CMO, he will provide strategic leadership to ensure the continuous improvement of patient safety, quality, effectiveness, value and efficiency of patient care across MVHS.
