As SUNY Poly awaits approval of the 2024-2025 operating budget for SUNY, the campus is pleased to announce that it will receive an additional $1.6 million in funding from the State University of New York (SUNY) and New York State. This funding will supplement SUNY Poly’s operating budget allocation for the upcoming year and provide additional faculty and staff support; expand research activity; and enhance SUNY Poly student internship experiences.

These additional resources are particularly remarkable within the broader context of support recently committed to SUNY Poly; the university has seen a $6.3M increase in direct state budget support over the past two years. Students, faculty, and staff are already benefiting from the funds dedicated in 2023-2024 to launching targeted, sustainable investments in mental health services; supporting the needs of students with disabilities; expanding internships for undergraduate students; advancing research; addressing food insecurity; and mitigating fees for graduate students who work on-campus.

SUNY Poly will also benefit from a $44M capital investment from the state and SUNY, announced in the fall of 2023, which will expand the current health science wing and update nursing labs in Donovan Hall, as well as create a robotics and advanced manufacturing research and education lab.  A portion of this funding ($16M) coupled with a recently awarded $4M Empire State Development (ESD) grant will support the establishment of a Semiconductor Processing to Packaging Research, Education, and Training Center on SUNY Poly’s campus in the Quad C building, where industry partner Semikron Danfoss operates.

Under the leadership of Governor Kathy Hochul and Chancellor John B. King, Jr., the state of New York is making historic investments in its public higher education system, with the largest two-year budget allocation to SUNY in more than half a century.  This year’s budget builds on the previous year’s $163 million investment in SUNY with an additional $114 million in support that will directly benefit students, faculty, and staff throughout the system.

Dr. Winston Soboyejo, SUNY Poly president, said, “We are profoundly grateful for the support of Governor Hochul, Chancellor King, and the SUNY Board of Trustees. We are also thankful for Senator Joseph Griffo and Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon, who have been tireless advocates for SUNY Poly. Their investment in the future of our campus, region, and state elevates our work to promote public good, change lives, prepare the workforce of tomorrow, and support economic development and prosperity for all.”

As explained in a statement released by SUNY, “The final 2024/2025 Enacted New York State budget underscores the commitment of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature to ensure New Yorkers continue to have access to high-quality, affordable higher education, as well as their confidence in SUNY’s role as the nation’s leading statewide public system of higher education.”
