Looking for volunteers? Pioneer Pitch-In, hosted by the Center for Career Readiness at Utica University, is a one-day community service experience for all incoming first-year students. The Center partners with non-profit organizations in the greater Utica area in need of extra assistance that Utica University students can provide.
Past projects have included a phone-a-thon for the Alzheimer’s Association, landscaping local parks with Olmsted City and GreenUtica, archival work with the Oneida County History Center, hosting a carnival for local families with Kelberman, and helping to prepare for a fundraising event at Sculpture Space.
This year’s Pioneer Pitch-In will take place on Thursday, August 24th, from 9:30 am-12:30 pm. Transportation and snacks are provided, with a University staff mentor and student mentor accompanying each group. Projects and tasks can vary by organizational need. The program’s overall goals are to help the students feel immersed in their new community, experience the joy of volunteering, and get to know their classmates.
The Center for Career Readiness invites any non-profit organization Chamber members to submit an application for consideration! Staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about the event, and how you can participate. Please contact (315)792-3832 or pioneerpitchin@utica.edu to learn more.
