First Source Federal Credit Union was proud to help the Young Scholars LPP with their fundraising efforts through GotSneakers, a sneaker recycling organization, which will compensate up to $3 for every pair of wearable athletic sneakers donated. Employees at First Source were able to contribute 60 pairs of sneakers to the project.
Once GotSneakers collects these shoes, they distribute them around the world specifically within impoverished nations. Not only does this provide sneakers to those who need them, but it also keeps those sneakers out of landfills where they can take 30-40 years to decompose. Young Scholars LPP will be donating the profit they receive from recycling these sneakers to a local food bank.
“This is the type of fundraiser where everyone wins,” said Pamela Way, First Source Community Relations Specialist. “Our employees were able to clean out unneeded sneakers, Young Scholars was able to raise money that went back into the community, and we’re helping to keep excess waste out of landfills.”
