In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), the Workforce Development Board’s NY SCION grant, in partnership with the Department of Labor and ACCES-VR, is pleased to sponsor a Diverse Abilities Job Fair.
The event will be held at Mohawk Valley Community College, Wilcox Hall Lobbies (lower level, upper level, and in WH 225) on Tuesday, October 8th, from 10AM until 1PM.
The event will connect job seekers with disabilities to inclusive employers. Local agencies that provide essential services to job seekers with disabilities, such as job coaching or specialized training that helps job seekers secure and sustain meaningful employment will also be on hand.
Additionally, the job fair will feature a resume booth, where job seekers can get constructive feedback on existing resumes and guidance on how to create an impactful resume. We are also excited to showcase the New York State Department of Labor’s Virtual Reality Headsets, which offer innovative career exploration.
Workforce Development Board staff who specialize in Apprenticeship placement will also be available. Apprenticeships are a crucial part of equipping the workforce with new pathways to employment through the “earn while you learn” model, which is beneficial for job seekers with disabilities who may lack prior employment experience.
Employers attending the job fair will have the chance to tap into a diverse and often underrepresented labor pool. Hiring job seekers with disabilities could make their organizations eligible for tax incentives or On-the-Job Training funds.
