Notre Dame Schools is pleased to announce that the Notre Dame NJROTC program has earned their spot to compete in the 2025 NJROTC Nationals Academic, Athletic & Drill Championship this April in Pensacola, FL!
Only 26 out of over 600 schools nationwide qualify for the NJROTC Nationals Championship and Notre Dame Jr/Sr High School is one of those schools! This will be the fourth time the program has qualified to compete at the National level and the second year in a row.
Their outstanding performance at the NJROTC Area 1 Drill Meet last month solidified their spot to compete in the National Competition. Notre Dame took first place in every event and first place overall!
The following schools compete in the Area 1 Drill Meet:
- Brewster Central School – Brewster, NY,
- Central Valley Academy – Ilion, NY,
- North Rockland High School – Thiells, NY
- Notre Dame Jr/Sr High School – Utica, NY
- Proctor High School – Utica, NY
The events included:
- Inspection
- Academics
- Color Guard
- Armed & Unarmed Basic
- Armed & Unarmed Exhibition
- Physical Fitness
- Knock Out

The NJROTC instructors are Captain Robert Schug and Chief Brian Jaynes. The unit is led by students Commanding Officer Sara Aung, Command Master Chief Briana Fields, and Executive Officer Paul Kearney.
Notre Dame’s NJROTC program has been very successful over the years, earning Distinguished Unit Award with Academic honors for eight years in a row. Our unit provides various activities, including Drill Teams, Color Guard, Rifle Team, Academic Team, and Air Rifle Shooting Team. Notre Dame’s NJROTC participates in many community events, such as, Flags for Heroes, Toys for Tots, local parades, and local veterans affairs organizations. The cadets’ community service teaches and reinforces new skills such as assuming responsibility and exposing the students to the needs of the outside world.
Notre Dame’s NJROTC (Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps) is composed of 60 students from grades 8th – 12th. NJROTC is a unique program which teaches self-discipline, leadership, respect, and self-determination skills. Several current seniors have received Navy ROTC scholarships to attend college, one student has received a nomination and is awaiting to hear of his possible acceptance to the US Naval Academy. Two 2024 NJROTC graduates are currently attending the US Naval Academy.
