The Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS), in collaboration with Upstate Urology at MVHS, is holding a series of free prostate cancer screenings throughout the month of April to encourage men to get screened.

 

Who: Men ages 45 to 75.

 

What: Free prostate exam with a prostate-specific blood test.

 

Where and When:

  • Upstate Urology at MVHS, Faxton Campus, 1675 Bennett Street, Utica (use the Bennett Street entrance and take the Green Elevators to the second floor.) April 3, 9, 11 and 14 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • MVHS Rome Medical Office, 1617 North James Street, Rome. April 18 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • MVHS Herkimer Medical Office, 201 E State Street, Herkimer. April 22 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Why: Prostate cancer is the most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in American men. Approximately one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Early diagnosis of prostate cancer significantly increases the likelihood of survival.
