The Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) Outpatient Lymphedema Clinic is holding free screenings throughout the month of March in honor of Lymphedema Awareness Month.

Lymphedema is the build-up of fluid in soft body tissues when the lymph system is damaged or blocked. Lymphedema Awareness Month is a time to spread information about this disorder, to reach those suffering from symptoms and to provide recourses to those who are currently or recently diagnosed.

Typical symptoms of lymphedema include swelling, heaviness or tightness, reoccurring infections and restricted range of motion. It is most common in limbs including fingers and toes but may occur in the trunk, chest, back, neck or shoulders.

Those interested in a free screening should call the MVHS Outpatient Lymphedema Rehabilitation Center at 315-624-4632, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to set up a free screening appointment during the month of March.
