Mohawk Valley Community College hosted over 100 students from Madison-Oneida BOCES for “Discover Rome” today on its Rome Campus to showcase five of MVCC’s fields of study: Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems, Culinary Arts, Information Technology, Criminal Justice, and Surgical Technology.
The students were divided into groups and attended different sessions touring the classrooms and labs to learn about the different academic options through hands-on activities. During the culinary sessions, even helped cook the lunch they ate after sessions were completed.
“MVCC’s Rome Campus has so much to offer in cutting-edge technology and a variety of academic programs tailored to the needs of the local workforce,” said Franca Armstrong, associate vice president of Workforce Development and dean of the Rome Campus. “Discover Rome is a way to showcase programs to local high school students who are looking for the next step toward a successful future. The programs we featured today can lead to fulfilling, high-pay careers right here in the Mohawk Valley.”
“It’s important that high school students learn about MVCC’s academic programs available at the lowest-cost of any college in the region,” said Stephanie Verostek, director of Campus Services. “MVCC’s programs are easily accessible, affordable, and fun. We handpicked the programs we featured today because they are high-growth industries in the area, and graduates of these programs can be confident of local career options.”
