Utica, N.Y. — Munson has planned an exciting lineup of performances and events for the 2024-25 season, and tickets are now available.

 

The season kicks off with the first of two Keyboard Conversations with acclaimed pianist Jeffrey Siegel. In his signature concert-with-commentary style, he will present “Dances for the Ears” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7, in the Museum of Art’s Sinnott-Family–Bank of Utica Auditorium, featuring the lively, rhythmic music of Bach, Chopin, and Spanish composers Enrique Granados and Manuel de Falla. In the spring, Siegel will perform “A Few of Our Favorite Things” as part of Spring Weekend at 2 p.m. April 5, featuring beloved masterpieces by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, and Brahms. Tickets are $24 for Munson Members, $30 for the general public, and $15 for students.

 

Concerts in the Court this season will showcase Antonio Sánchez performing “Birdman Live” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1, 2025, in which Grammy-winning composer Sanchez performs live alongside a screening of the film in celebration of its 10th anniversary. Other concerts include Danú, one of today’s foremost traditional Irish ensembles that seamlessly blends ancient Irish melodies with vibrant new compositions, performing at 7 p.m. March 6; and Live from Laurel Canyon: Songs and Stories of American Folk Rock, an immersive journey blending live performances with stories behind legendary songs of the 1960s and ’70s, at 7:30 p.m. May 10. All concerts take place in the Museum of Art’s Root Court, and tickets are $28 for Munson Members, $35 for the general public, and $15 for students.

 

Free Art Alive! Family Days, which include art-making activities, performances, and workshops, will continue to take place on school breaks. For Veterans Day, Bam Percussion will present The Blue Barrel Show! Doktor Kaboom! will present two performances of “Look Out! Science is Coming!” On Jan. 2 during Winter Break, the band Alex and the Kaleidoscope returns for a performance and a music workshop on Feb. 20 during February Break, and Captain Nemo’s Adventure Academy will present an eco-friendly performance and workshop on April 24 as part of Spring Break. All Art Alive! Family Days take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

 

Several special performances will be offered throughout the season. At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, acclaimed pianist Robin Spielberg will present a free concert program focused on the benefits of music for good mental health. On Dec. 21, the local Half Moon Orchestra will return to Munson following last year’s sold-out performance, this time bringing their full orchestra to share an enchanting classical holiday concert. Tickets are free for Munson members and $15 for the general public. In celebration of Valentine’s Day, attendees can treat themselves to an evening of Victorian love stories paired with signature cocktails and elegant charcuterie at “Love on the Rocks” at 7 p.m. Feb. 13. Tickets are $52 for Munson Members and $65 for the general public, including the first flight of sample cocktails.

 

This season will also feature “An Evening with John Waters,” filmmaker and cultural icon, at 7:30 p.m. April 10. The self-proclaimed “Prince of Filth,” famed the world over for his cult epics including “Pink Flamingos,” “Polyester,”  and “Hairspray,” will share stories from his life in the counterculture film world. Attendees can opt to stick around after the show for an intimate discussion where Waters will answer burning questions (limited to 50 guests). For the performance alone, tickets are $44 for Munson Members and $55 for the general public. Tickets that include the performance and the Q&A session are $68 for Munson Members and $85 for the general public.

 

The Met: Live in HD begins on Saturday, Oct. 5  with “Les Contes D’Hoffmann” by Offenbach. The Metropolitan Opera’s award-winning series of opera performances transmitted live from the stage of the Met into movie theaters worldwide will continue with more thrilling titles including “Tosca,” “The Magic Flute,” and “Aida.” Individual opera tickets are $24 for Munson Members, $30 for the general public, and $15 for students. Munson will also continue its celebrated weekly Film Series on Wednesdays and Fridays.
