According to the CDC, heart disease remains the number one cause of death in the United States, affecting 1.5 million people in the US alone each year. Therefore, in honor of American Heart Month in February, Masonic Medical Research Institute (MMRI) is launching an online fundraising event, titledย At the Heart of it All,ย to support their heart research programs. This fun and โheartโ warming fundraiser is intended to support and raise awareness of MMRIโs lifesaving research programs, all happening right here in the Mohawk Valley.
For $10, donors can provide a special โheartโ message that will be displayed on MMRIโs social media platforms. Messages can be an inspirational note made in honor of a loved one or family member with heart disease.
MMRI has a 65-year history in cardiovascular research, having taken part in the development of lifesaving devices that include the pacemaker and internal and external defibrillators. Their heart disease research programs have now expanded further into childrenโs genetic diseases, heart failure, cardiac inflammation and diabetes. In addition, MMRI is now focusing on understanding causes of and finding treatments for autoimmune and neurocognitive diseases.
The online At the Heart of it All fundraiser will run through the end of February. For information on how to donate, please visit mmri.edu/heartofitall.
