March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities in all areas of community life, as well as provide education about some of the barriers that individuals with disabilities still sometimes face in connecting to the communities in which they live.
Independent Living Centers like RCIL provide vital services and supports so that individuals with developmental disabilities are able to live independent lives; making their own choices about where and how they want to live, work, go to school and participate in our community.
Living and working in the community is a high priority for many individuals with disabilities, and with the appropriate services and supports, it can and will happen!
RCIL offers a wide range of programs and services to help ensure that individuals with developmental disabilities can succeed in living and working in the community. LIFE at RCIL Advocates are able to provide active support and guidance for people with disabilities, and help to ensure that an individual’s choices for living independently are respected. Information is power. LIFE at RCIL’s Advocates work to ensure that you have all the information you need to be able to make well informed choices and take control of your own life. Self-Direction services can help ensure that individuals have supports in place to live independently at home and in the community, Educational Advocates are available to ensure that students and parents have the tools for educational success, and Supported Employment programs help ensure that individuals with disabilities have access to competitive integrated employment.
