Edward Andrews Selected as 2024 Recipient of New York Sash Shower for a Soldier Giveaway

Ahead of Veteran’s Day, some good news for United States Army Veteran Edward Andrews from Hubbardsville. Andrews was selected as the 4th recipient of the 2024 Shower for a Soldier Bath Makeover Giveaway from New York Sash. This annual initiative aims to honor and support local veterans by providing them with a much-needed bath makeover, free of charge.

Andrews served in the United States Army for 21 years. 15 of those years were active duty served on the front lines in Iraq, Bosnia and Kosovo. During his years of service, Andrews suffered multiple injuries from IEDs & gunfire, resulting in lasting physical and mental injuries such as PTSD and TBI, along with knee, back and neck injuries.  Edward has had knee surgeries and revisions but still had trouble stepping over the tub wall when getting in and out of the shower.

Started in 2020, the goal of Shower for a Soldier is to improve the life of a local Veteran experiencing hardships that hinder everyday tasks such as bathing. New York Sash accepted entries from May through October, and nominations went through a blind rating and review process. Edward was nominated by his wife, Faith.

“He needs a bath makeover because we have a high sided tub that is quite frankly falling apart. He’d like a walk-in shower instead as it would be easier on his knees and back. He wants to fix it himself, but he always does too much and winds up hurting worse. I think he deserves something to make his life at least a little easier,” she wrote as part of her nomination.

New York Sash was able to meet Edward’s needs by transforming his bathroom into a safer and more accessible space. The new large walk-in shower focuses on accessibility and function and is complete with a bench seat, grab bars and accessories, removing any barriers to entry.

“Giving back to the community has always been at the core of who we are at New York Sash and our Shower for a Soldier initiative is an extension of that. We are proud to give back to our Veterans who have already given so much for our country,” said New York Sash CEO Jill Hayes. “We are honored to offer this year’s award to Edward & his family,” Hayes continued.

In alignment with the 2024 Shower for a Soldier Giveaway, New York Sash announces a new Veteran’s Discount program. The home improvement company will offer Veterans 22% off all products, all year long.

New York Sash will continue the Shower for a Soldier campaign next year, with nominations opening in the new year.
