Indium Corporation Corporate Associate Vice President Rick Short was named by the Genesis Group as a 2023 Joseph R. Carucci Legacy Award honoree. Short and three fellow honorees in the 2023 class were recognized during the Genesis Group’s annual meeting and luncheon at Hart’s Hill Inn on October 12th.
Named after the founder of the Genesis Group, the Joseph R. Carucci Legacy Awards are bestowed upon leaders who support local organizations, community development, and quality of life improvements in the Mohawk Valley. Short is being honored specifically for his extensive community service work, particularly with youth programs and those benefitting immigrant and refugee populations.
“The United Nations calls Utica, N.Y. ‘the town that loves refugees’ and I am proud of that reputation and the tremendous work that our local organizations have done to earn it,” said Short. “I look forward to continuing my work with our area students, helping them to realize rich and rewarding futures.”
Since joining Indium Corporation in 1984, Short has held numerous titles, including Technical Service Manager, Marketing Director, International Sales Director, Head of Technical Support, and Head of Environmental, Health & Safety. In his current role, he ensures global programs and initiatives are in harmony with corporate branding and culture, upholding the company’s philosophy of The Indium Way®.
With an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and degrees from Utica College (n.k.a Utica University) and Mohawk Valley Community College, Short has played a pivotal role in establishing global operations and pioneering Indium Corporation’s blog and social media programs. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Short has been extensively involved with community organizations throughout his career. He serves on the Mohawk Valley Community College Foundation Board and serves on the Midtown Utica Community Center advisory board. He coaches and mentors students in various educational programs, including Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES P-TECH, Utica City School System’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, and Utica University’s Young Scholars Liberty Partnerships Program.
