Indium Corporation, a global leader in materials science and electronics assembly solutions, founded and headquartered in the Mohawk Valley, rung in its 90th anniversary with an event co-hosted with the Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce on Friday, March 15.
Indium Corporation’s innovative products, especially its advanced soldering solutions, are found in many common consumer electronics and high-reliability technologies such as electric vehicles, mobile devices, life-saving medical devices, and emerging 5G technology to name just a few.
Indium Corporation was founded in 1934 by Dr. William S. Murray, operating from his garage at 805 Watson Place in Utica, New York. Dr. Murray was instrumental in identifying and enabling the first commercially viable applications for indium metal. Today, the company is a premier materials refiner, smelter, manufacturer, and supplier to the global electronics, semiconductor, thin-film, and thermal management markets with five local facilities in Utica, Clinton, Rome, and New Hartford in addition to facilities in China, Germany, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
“Indium Corporation’s 90 years of unwavering commitment to excellence not only showcases their remarkable journey but also underscores their significant economic impact on our region. As a cornerstone of the Mohawk Valley’s business landscape, their presence has fostered job creation, spurred innovation, and contributed to the vibrancy of our local economy,” said Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kari Puleo. “We commend Indium Corporation for their achievements over the last 90 years and the countless opportunities they have provided to our community. We look forward to the next 90 years of success, ‘The Indium Way’.”
“Our 90th anniversary is a significant milestone, made possible by the dedication of our team, the trust of our customers, and the continuing support of our global partners,” said CEO Greg Evans. “It is a moment to acknowledge our accomplishments but also a time to set our sights on a future enriched by the advancements in materials science on which we work every day.”
“As we commemorate 90 years of operations, we take pride in our strong Mohawk Valley roots,” Evans added. “Beyond business success, we remain committed to supporting our local communities, empowering our workforce, and adapting to the ever-changing landscape of the advanced manufacturing and semiconductor industries.”
Through STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) outreach partnerships with schools, universities, and community organizations, Indium Corporation impacts the lives of more than 5,000 students annually. Inaugurated in 2012, the company offers an award-winning college internship program which has launched the careers of over 100 college students in STEM fields.
“Just as we believe that materials science changes the world, we believe that today’s students will build our future successes,” said Associate Vice President of Human Resources Dawn Roller. “To that end, we are committed to bolstering community educational resources, especially those that advance the promise and vitally important work being done in STEM fields.”
Indium Corporation recently celebrated the first graduates of its apprenticeship program, offers assistance to support employees learning new skills and pursuing degree programs and works with military veterans to make successful transitions to private sector careers.
Indium Corporation and its charitable foundation proudly support many organizations throughout the community including local food pantries, housing shelters, the American Red Cross, ICAN, Greatest Heart Run & Walk, Stuff the Bus, United Way, and many veteran organizations. The Indium Corporation & Macartney Family Foundation is a philanthropic 501(c)(3) organization that supports primary needs including food, shelter, healthcare, and education.
Since just 2021, the company and its leaders have been honored by the Oneida County History Center, YWCA, MACNY, Mohawk Valley Alliance of Chambers of Commerce, the Genesis Group, and many industry associations.
