Food and Art Unite returns at Munson following last year’s sell-out event
Celebrate local cuisine and new Thomas Cole exhibition with Munson and 92.7FM The Drive/98.3FM El Zorro Radio Latino
Munson and 92.7FM The Drive/98.3FM El Zorro Radio Latino announce the second annual “Food and Art Unite,” a vibrant exploration of Utica’s diverse communities through art, music, culture, and cuisine. This multicultural celebration will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at Munson in Downtown Utica and is sponsored by First Source Credit Union, The Sentinel Media Company, WKTV, Lilly’s Tax Services, Big Dog Motors, and CNY Latino. Ticket sales will go live on Monday, Jan. 27.
“Food and Art Unite,” suitable for all ages, highlights the rich global palette and cultural cuisine enjoyed in Utica. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample dishes from a variety of area restaurants representing different cultural backgrounds and enjoy live music by saxophonist Carlo SXO from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Admission will include the cost of admission to “Canvas to Culture: Thomas Cole’s Voyage of Life Lives On,” on view through May 18, which features more than 50 works from Munson and other prominent collections inspired by Thomas Cole’s epic, “The Voyage of Life” (1839–40). This exhibition is the first to uncover the enduring legacy of Munson’s beloved quartet by Cole. From the first printed and painted reproductions to popular imagery in early multimedia shows, the journey culminates in the translation of Cole’s painted vision of “Youth” to the silver screen in the first full-length “talkie” film, “The Jazz Singer” (1927).
“‘Food and Art Unite’ has turned into a great community event, featuring many cuisines of the different cultures in the Mohawk Valley,” said Mindy Barstein, owner/general manager of 92.7FM The Drive and 98.3FM El Zorro Radio Latino. “We’re proud to promote that all of our participating restaurants are locally owned and that we’re able to use our unique formats to continue our mission to ‘Bring Unity to the Community.’”
Attendees will receive a Culinary Passport upon entry, to be punched after sampling each restaurant’s food. Completed cards will be entered into a raffle for door prizes from both Munson 92.7FM The Drive and 98.3FM El Zorro Radio Latino.
