The Utica City School District is celebrating continued enrollment growth for the third year in a row. This trend reflects the community’s confidence in the direction of Utica’s schools and the work happening in classrooms and programs across the district.
According to the New York State Education Department’s annual BEDS Day report, enrollment for the All Students subgroup has increased each year:
● 2023–24 to 2024–25: 9,435 students (+0.42%)
● 2024–25 to 2025–26: 9,475 students (+0.63%)
● Total growth over three years: 9,535 students (+1.06%)
Families are choosing UCSD because they see strong school communities and expanded programming that support every learner. Career and Technical Education opportunities and the RED Program, among others, have strengthened the student experience and created more pathways for success.
At the center of this growth are the educators and support staff who care for students each day. Families see the relationships, the guidance, and the stability that staff provide, and those daily interactions shape their decision to remain in Utica’s schools. Enrollment gains reflect the trust families place in the people doing the work.
“Utica is growing, and our schools are growing with it,” said Superintendent Dr. Christopher Spence. “Enrollment increases like these show that families believe in the work we are doing. They see the dedication of our staff, they see the new programs and supports we are building, and they are choosing the Utica City School District with confidence. This momentum belongs to our entire community, and we are proud to serve a city that continues to put its faith in us.”
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Steven A. Falchi noted that the district’s academic programs and support systems have been key factors in this trend. “When families see strong teaching, strong programs, and strong relationships, they stay, and others join them,” Falchi said. “Our growth over the past three years reflects our educators’ commitment and the ongoing expansion of opportunities across the district. We are grateful for the trust our community has placed in us, and we will continue working every day to earn it.”
This growth affirms the progress happening across Utica’s schools and underscores the work ahead. UCSD will continue expanding opportunities for students and strengthening the learning experience in every school.
