The Utica Zoo is announcing the arrival of an international exhibit, Dino Discovery presented by The Flemma Group at Baird. Opening May 24 and running through October 19, this five-month prehistoric adventure promises to transport visitors back in time to an era when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
This unique exhibit will feature over 15 animatronic dinosaurs placed all throughout the zoo, equipped with life-like movements, sounds, and even water-spraying effects for a truly immersive experience.
In total, over 16,000 pounds of dinosaurs and landscaping will be showcased across the zoo, offering a visually stunning and educational journey through the prehistoric past. Visitors can expect daily dinosaur presentations, special educational programs, and a variety of themed events throughout the summer, including exclusive member events, making every visit a new and exciting adventure.
One local artist will also get the chance to customize one of the dinosaur displays. Young artists, (1-17 years old) are encouraged to submit original designs to create a custom paint job for one of the sculptures featured at the zoo. To enter, color in the picture of the dinosaur — using crayons, markers, paints, pastels, anything goes—let your creativity run wild. For contest instructions and coloring sheet, visit www.uticazoo.org/dinodiscovery. Entries must be submitted by March 31st.
Dino Discovery is included with regular zoo admission, including zoo membership, ensuring that all guests have the opportunity to enjoy this limited-time experience. Utica Zoo memberships offer free admission for an entire year, which means an endless summer of fun and dino adventures. Memberships can be purchased online or at the Utica Zoo Gift Shop.
“Dino Discovery presents the opportunity for the Utica Zoo to weave elements of our mission together; educating our visitors about the important role of conservation while having fun and creating new memories! Dinosaurs are no longer in existence; the collective work of the zoo industry is to ensure other species don’t follow suit,” said Andria Heath, Executive Director of the Utica Zoo. “Additionally, one of my favorite parts of my job is to collaborate with others and positively impact the economy of our region. This special project, supported by so many of our business partners, recognizes the Utica Zoo as a destination for neighbors and tourists from across the state and nation.”
“The Utica Zoo is a premier attraction in Oneida County, continually finding new and exciting ways to engage visitors of all ages. This upcoming dinosaur exhibit is a game-changer—not only is it the first of its kind in the Mohawk Valley, but it’s also expected to bring in thousands of visitors, boosting tourism and supporting our local economy. This is exactly the kind of immersive, family-friendly experience that makes Oneida County a standout destination, and we are thrilled to partner with the Utica Zoo as they continue to innovate and inspire,” said Sarah Foster Calero, President of Oneida County Tourism.
“The Utica Zoo is an invaluable asset to our region, enriching our community by providing educational and recreational experiences for residents and visitors alike. Hosting this unique dinosaur exhibit this summer adds to the Zoo’s dynamic offerings and highlights the importance of accessible, high-quality attractions that enhance our quality of life. A thriving community is one where people love to live, work, and play—and having a strong cultural and recreational foundation, like the Utica Zoo, makes our area even more appealing for families, visitors, and businesses looking to invest in a place where people truly want to be,” said Kari Puleo, Executive Director of Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce.
The Utica Zoo would like to give special thanks to the sponsors who have made this experience possible; The Flemma Group at Baird, Bank of Utica, First Source Federal Credit Union, Adirondack Bank, Market 32/Price Chopper, Steve Lennon & Company Jewelers, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, New York Sash, Stewart’s Foundation, and Greater Utica Chamber.
