In July of 2022, Broadway Theatre League of Utica was awarded a local initiative grant for their Students on Broadway Program through the office of Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon 119th Assembly District.
On the morning of March 29, 2023 Broadway Utica hosted over 600+ students in grades K – 2nd grade to attend Bluey’s Big Play at The Stanley Theatre. The average ticket for a student for this production was $39.00. Thanks to the grant and generous supporters, each school who enrolled in this program only paid $6 per student.
“I want to thank Executive Director Padula and her team for the innovative thinking that will support the introduction to the Arts for our local children. This initiative could provide a lifelong appreciation and involvement in theatrical productions.” stated Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon
Students on Broadway is a unique program started by Broadway Utica that gives students in grades K-12 a chance to enjoy Broadway right here in Utica at The Stanley Theatre regardless of race, ethnicity, or financial status. This one of a kind program allows students to attend world class touring Broadway musicals along with workshops and masterclasses instructed by those in the Broadway business, all at little to no cost. “The theatre is a place with no boundaries, full of acceptance, powerful messaging, and hope. We believe every child in our city and the surrounding communities should have the opportunity to experience theatre and all it has to offer.” stated Danielle Padula, Executive Director of Broadway Utica.“ To receive this grant and see the smiles on the kids’ faces as they walked into the theater, to have teachers thanking us for this opportunity, it was just a good day. We are so thankful to Assemblywoman Buttenschon for believing in the power of the arts, live entertainment and Broadway Utica. This is a day we’ll never forget and we know the kids won’t either”.
