The New York State Long Term Care Ombudsman Program is a resident-centered and resident-directed advocacy program available to anyone residing in a nursing home, adult care facility or family-type home across the state. The local Long Term Care Ombudsman Program sponsored by LIFE at Resource Center For Independent Living covers Oneida, Herkimer, Otsego and Madison counties. Ombudsmen advocate for residents by addressing quality of life and quality of care issues along with resident’s rights concerns.
As visitation to facilities has been restricted, we would like families and residents to know the Ombudsman Program must also abide by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) guidelines for no in-person visitation. Although, facility doors are closed to visitors, The Ombudsman Program continues to work as an essential service to residents and families experiencing nursing home and other adult care facility related issues.
