Presented by Neil Gilberg and Joe Cavalcante Workers’ Compensation Board
Neil Gilberg has significant experience in the private sector. Neil comes from the hospitality industry, where he spent 20 yrs. running a major Catskills resort, managing 300 employees and a multi-million dollar budget. He also has background in gov’t. service as the former Sullivan County Clerk; as a member of the Fallsburg Town Council; and as a trustee of the Fallsburg Central School District. Neil was on the Board of Directors for C.A.S.A (Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children). He was subsequently appointed by the Governor to serve as the Business Ambassador/Advocate for Business for the NYS Workers’ Compensation Board. In this capacity, Neil addresses employers’ concerns regarding the workers’ compensation system in New York State and develops policies to address those concerns.
Joe Cavalcante helps workers access their benefits on the most complex workers’ compensation and Paid Family Leave claims and also handles all fatality claims. Prior to this position, he was an agency spokesperson for more than 10 years, representing the Board publicly and writing many of our publications. He’s also been the Board’s point person on World Trade Center issues. Before joining the Board, Joe’s broad work experience includes teaching as a college instructor and positions in health insurance, the software industry and at FEMA. He has written for dozens of publications as well. Joe holds an MA from SUNY at Albany.
