Community Foundation and UpMobility Foundation to Host Third-Annual 24-Hour Online Day of Giving to Support Local Nonprofit Organizations
Mohawk Valley Gives Returns Friday, September 20
The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties and UpMobility Foundation will host the third-annual 24-hour online day of community giving, “Mohawk Valley Gives,” on Friday, September 20, to benefit local nonprofits serving Herkimer, Oneida and Otsego counties.
More than 320 nonprofits are participating, using social media and other means of engagement to inspire and energize their donors. Support areas include animal rights, disability services, racial equity, education, arts and culture, emergency response, poverty and hunger, entrepreneurship, health and wellness, and many others. The full list of participating organizations is available at givemv.org.
Last year, more than 6,800 donors from all over the world came together and raised nearly $2.5 million, benefiting 255 nonprofit organizations.
“The second year of Mohawk Valley Gives was a tremendous success and exceeded all expectations,” said Community Foundation President/CEO Alicia Fernandez Dicks. “This event not only showcases the incredible nonprofits we have right here in our community but sheds light on the generosity that exists in our region. Through and through, our community comes together, and this is a great example of just that. We are thrilled to see what this year will bring.”
Last year’s results moved the needle and much of that growth was thanks to a $1M match program that was sponsored by UpMobility Foundation for a select group of nonprofit organizations. This year, UpMobility, located in Little Falls, joined Mohawk Valley Gives as a co-host alongside the Community Foundation. This collaboration will expand the reach and impact of the event, while also opening the door to exploration and growth opportunities in the future related to the giving day.
“September 20 marks an incredible opportunity for our community to come together and amplify the impact of our local organizations,” said Heidi Cochran, grants administrator for UpMobility Foundation. “The generosity and support we show now will ripple throughout the Mohawk Valley, enriching lives and strengthening the foundations of our community. UpMobility Foundation is excited to be a part of this movement, and we can’t wait to see the transformative outcomes we as a community will achieve together in 2024.”
Mohawk Valley Gives also partners with Staffworks for its annual Save a Life Campaign, and The Community Foundation of Otsego County, enabling Otsego nonprofits to benefit from the giving day.
Donations will be accepted at www.givemv.org through Sunday, September 22, but donations made on the September 20 giving day will help nonprofits maximize their fundraising goals throughout the day with donation matches, challenges and other Mohawk Valley Gives incentives, such as monetary prizes.
This year, more than 280 prizes totaling over $80,000 will be awarded all throughout the day on September 20. Prize awards will be announced via the Community Foundation’s social media pages. Returning this year is the “Piece of the Pie” Prize Pool, sponsored by the M&T Bank/Partners Trust Bank Charitable Fund at the Community Foundation. This prize pool will incentivize every organization that receives at least one online donation on the 20th, making it possible for every organization to walk away with extra earned cash.
