Local home improvement company New York Sash is seeking nominations of Veterans
for the Shower for a Soldier Bath Makeover Giveaway. Aimed at recognizing the service and sacrifice of local Veterans who have suffered lasting service-related injuries, New York Sash will be providing one recipient with an accessible bathroom makeover free of charge.
The program was founded in 2020 by New York Sash owner Scot Hayes as a way to help local Veterans experiencing hardships that make everyday tasks such as bathing difficult. For the chosen Veteran, New York Sash will convert their tub to an easily-accessible extra large shower with safety features such as seat, grab bars and handheld fixtures.

Last year’s recipient was Tech Sergeant Michael Kingsley of Whitesboro, NY. Tech Sergeant Kingsley suffered injuries from his service in Vietnam, which resulted in nerve damage in his legs and a-fib that causes him to have difficulty breathing. Kingsley was nominated by his daughter, Megan Kingsley, his primary caretaker. Kingsley received a free tub-to-shower conversion by New York Sash which eliminated the difficulty of getting in and out of the shower.

“We are honored to continue helping Veterans in our community through our Shower for a Soldier Bath Makeover Giveaway. This initiative allows us to help the brave men and women of the Armed Forces that have selflessly served our country, who now need a little help getting their independence back,” said New York Sash CEO Jill Hayes.

“We’ve helped three deserving Veterans so far and are looking forward to giving back to our next Shower for a Soldier recipient,” Hayes continued.
