America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk will return to its traditional date and location

2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the community event that fights heart disease and stroke

As committee and board members donned warm coats and hats, Frank Mastrovito of Mastrovito Hyundai, corporate chair of America’s Greatest Heart run & Walk in 2024, announced that the event will return to Utica University, and will take place on March 2, 2024.

“The 50th anniversary of America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk takes place in 2024, the same year that the American Heart Association celebrates its centennial,” Mastrovito said. “We’re bringing tradition back to life by returning to a time that was always known as Heart Weekend, the first weekend in March. And, we’re going back to a place that thousands are familiar with as the home of the Heart Run & Walk, Utica University.”

“Our community is of the utmost importance to Utica University, and we are looking forward to welcoming America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk back to our campus,” said Todd Pfannestiel, PhD, president of the university. “The mission of the American Heart Association means better health for all of us, and we can’t think of a better way to start to wrap up winter than by hosting this great event.”

America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk will take place on Saturday, March 2, at Utica University. The walk will go through neighborhoods that include the famous “Heartbreak Hill.”

The Health Expo will take place on Friday, March 1.

The Heart Telethon on WKTV will be sponsored by GPO Federal Credit Union, and will take place from noon to 8 p.m. on March 1, and from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on March 2.

The Heart Radiothon on WIBX, sponsored by Slocum-Dickson, will take place on March 1 and March 2. The Treadmill Challenge is part of the Radiothon and will take place on March 1.

All events will take place at Utica University.

A 50th anniversary committee has begun working on the event, and more members are welcome. Steve Gassner, administrative officer at Mohawk Valley Water Authority, is the director of America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk.

“The progress that the American Heart Association has made in the past 50 years means that more of our family members and friends have lived longer and happier lives,” Gassner said. “We are looking to recruit more committee members to help us celebrate this significant event in our community, and help launch the next 50 years of lifesaving work of the American Heart Association.”
