Adirondack Railroad Special Ride from Utica to Tupper Lake

The October 16th Adirondack RR departure from Utica to Tupper Lake, is a milestone for many passengers, members of the Central New York and Mohawk Valley chapters of the National Historic Railroad Society (NHRS) who chartered the last run on September 25, 1965, before the New York Central Railroad officially abandoned the line. This also a special event for both the Utica and Tupper Lake communities and the volunteers and staff of the Adirondack RR who have worked for the past 30 years to make this happen.

This is a unique opportunity for news crews to be on the Utica Station platform for the boarding of the 400 folks who will be traveling. These paying customers are a different audience than those who rode the Old Forge to Tupper Lake train on Sept 13th. Coordinating with our General Manager, Justin Gonyo, the Adirondack RR would accommodate a news crew or reporter to accompany our passengers.

The Tupper Lake community is coming together to welcome the train. Area businesses will be present in the Depot and under a big tent outside. Raquette River Brewing Company, a local microbrewery will be conducting tastings. The Wild Center, the Adirondack Sky Center (a celestial observatory in Tupper Lake), and the Arts Center are also confirmed to participate in the event.

In addition, ROOST, the tourism promo agency that works for Tupper Lake is producing a map of attractions and businesses within a 5-minute walk of the Depot for distribution to our passengers at boarding. The agency is also reaching out with the blessing of the Village and Town officials to encourage other businesses to welcome our passengers and showcase what is to see and do in the entire Tupper Lake area.
