The Workforce Development Board, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Inc.โ€™s (WDB/HMO) Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant program is hosting a free women-focused virtual job fair on Wednesday, May 18th, from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

โ€œThe Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant is offering several opportunities this Spring/Summer for women to be placed in quality pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs,โ€ says Project Director Sommer Edwards. โ€œThe goal is to provide equal access to the training needed for women to secure employment within a non-traditional career.โ€

Nontraditional occupations is defined by the U.S. Department of Labor as any industry in which females make up 25% or less of the workforce, including trades, information technology (IT), advanced manufacturing, transportation, public safety, agriculture, and more..

โ€œCurrent WANTO participants have recently completed pre-apprenticeship training, and are actively seeking employment through a number of our partnered employers,โ€ Ms. Edwards says. โ€œWANTO has recently switched to all virtual training options to allow women access to more opportunities by limiting the barriers many face in being able to participate in in-person classes. WANTO staff, along with its counterparts, look forward to connecting with new participants and employers who are interested in contributing to a more inclusive and equitable workforce.โ€

WANTO serves the following counties: Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, Onondaga, Otsego, Schoharie, St. Lawrence, Tioga, and Tompkins. Job seekers and employers throughout the entire 17-county region are invited to register.

The job fair is free to job seekers and employers on a user-friendly platform.
